Partner and family visas for Australia

Visas for partners, fiancés, children, parents and other relatives of people in Australia.

Last reviewed on 6 October 2026 by MigrateMark.

These visas let family members of Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens come to or stay in Australia.

The main types

  • Partner visas. For married and de facto partners. There are versions for people applying in Australia and outside it. Most are granted in two stages: temporary first, then permanent.
  • Prospective Marriage visa. For people coming to Australia to marry their partner.
  • Child visas. For children of people settled in Australia.
  • Parent visas. For parents of settled children. Some have long waiting times.

What matters most: evidence. For partner visas, you need to show your relationship is genuine and continuing. An agent can tell you what kind of evidence is expected.

What to have ready: passports, the sponsor's proof of status, marriage or relationship documents, photos and records of your life together.
